Meet Jessica
Jessica Borkenhagen, MS, LPCC
Creativity, teaching, and a genuine desire to help shape everything I do, whether I am at work or going about my daily life.
I come from a background in education and service. I started out teaching art in both public and private schools. Over the years, I have also worked as a family ministry director, foster parent, and healthcare client advocate. My focus has always been on connecting with others and encouraging progress through relationships, building skills, and supporting spiritual growth. Now, I bring this same commitment to my work as a therapist. I help adults and adolescents who are dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, and life changes, as well as couples working through infidelity, communication problems, loss, and family challenges.
I strongly believe in the therapeutic process, not because I learned about its benefits from professors and books, but because I experienced the transformative results in my own life. I now have the honor of walking with others as they face their own struggles head-on.
About the Practice
Life can feel overwhelming with the noise and expectations from society, family, friends, and the media. Straight River Counseling offers a quiet space where you can hear your own voice, explore your thoughts and experiences, and leave with clarity, goals, and skills.
Our goal is to help you:
-
Your goal is worth fighting for, and reaching it will require vulnerability, honesty, bravery, prioritizing therapeutic work, and enduring through struggles.
-
Good mental health shows up as adaptability, creativity, perspective, resilience, and purpose. These are impossible when you feel stuck . Whether you have been stagnant or your grip on control is too tight, forward movement leads to freedom and growth.
-
I’ve never met an interesting person who hasn’t overcome and grown through hard times. Embracing growth and change is what renewal is all about. It’s not focused on temporary relief, but on thriving in a fully healed new you.
